Dallas took care of business on the road. The Wings rolled into Coca-Cola Coliseum on Sunday and walked out with an 89-76 victory over the Toronto Tempo, pushing Dallas to a comfortable 13-8 record while dropping the hosts to 9-11.
Former Tennessee standout Isabelle Harrison did what she could for Toronto. Getting the start and grinding through 27 minutes of action, the ex-Lady Vol put up 13 points, grabbed five boards, and chipped in with an assist, a steal, and a block. She was efficient, too. Harrison knocked down 5-of-10 from the floor and missed only one of her four free throws.
She had some help, but not enough. Marina Mabrey netted 19 points for Toronto, Nyara Sabally fought her way to 14, and Kia Nurse added 12. It just wasn’t enough to counter the Wings’ firepower. Paige Bueckers was the best player on the court, torturing Toronto’s defense to the tune of a game-high 22 points.
Harrison’s basketball pedigree runs deep. She wore the orange and white in Knoxville from 2011 to 2015, learning the ropes under legendary head coach Pat Summitt and her successor, Holly Warlick. By 2014, Harrison was dominating the SEC, capturing the tournament MVP trophy and securing First-Team All-SEC honors. Phoenix took notice, grabbing her 12th overall in the first round of the 2015 WNBA draft. She proved her grit later in her career, earning the Associated Press WNBA Comeback Player of the Year award in 2019.
Toronto doesn’t have much time to lick its wounds. The Tempo will be right back at Coca-Cola Coliseum on Wednesday night to host Golden State. Tipoff against the Valkyries is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
