Nottingham Forest has hired former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. He is their fifth head coach in under a year. Let that sink in. The Austrian lands at the City Ground to replace Vitor Pereira, who was axed on Tuesday. In a move of exquisite timing, Pereira was sacked exactly two minutes before an exit clause in his contract would have expired.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis called Glasner a winner, claiming they share the same relentless desire to succeed. The club first reached out to the 51-year-old earlier this summer after he left Palace. The managerial revolving door at Forest has been spinning fast. Nuno Espirito Santo started last season, followed by Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and Pereira. All of them have held the reins since September.
Glasner took over Palace in 2024, quickly delivering the FA Cup and then the Europa Conference League. He also grabbed the Community Shield in August by beating Liverpool on penalties. Despite being offered a new deal, Glasner announced in January he wanted a new challenge. Now, he says Forest’s leadership convinced him with their long-term vision and trust.
Glasner is one of only three coaches to win both the Europa League and the Conference League, having tasted European glory with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022. Marinakis insists the goal is to put Forest back among the elite of England and Europe. He wants trophies, not just survival. Meanwhile, Pereira leaves after guiding Forest to 16th place—five points clear of the drop—and a Europa League semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.
