Tim Mead is going to the Hall of Fame. The American Baseball Coaches Association made it official, naming the Walsh University icon as one of seven inductees for the Class of 2025. They will hand him his plaque on January 8 in Chicago during the annual convention. It is a massive nod.
Mead is a Walsh lifer. He graduated from the school, took over the program, and never looked back. Over 44 grueling seasons, he racked up 983 wins, making him the winningest coach in Cavalier history. He took them to the NAIA World Series back in 2007. Then, just to prove he still had the touch, he guided them to their first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in 2022. Not bad for a local kid.
Mead was quick to deflect the spotlight, thanking his family, the Brothers of Christian Instruction, and the school’s administration for letting him stick around so long. He credited his players and staff. That is classic Mead.
His influence stretches far beyond the dugout in North Canton. Mead currently sits on the ABCA board of directors and actually chairs the Hall of Fame committee. He is a past president of both the ABCA and the NAIA Coaches Association. In 2017, he took home the Robert E. Smith Achievement Award.
Now, he joins a select group. Only about 350 coaches have entered the ABCA Hall since its inception in 1966. Mead belongs there.
