The internet pounced. Hard. Conservatives wasted no time pointing out the absurdity of a municipal mayor playing global sheriff. Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders wondered aloud why Mamdani wasn’t demanding handcuffs for Hamas terrorists instead. Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman went further, calling the stunt a “horrific package of lies” and labeling the mayor’s rhetoric outright despicable.
It got worse. Senator Tim Scott blasted the mayor for chasing headlines while ignoring the atrocities committed by Hamas. Local critics were even more brutal. City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino accused Mamdani of spreading “antisemitic blood libel” straight from Hamas’s playbook. Meanwhile, UN Ambassador Mike Waltz dismissed the whole saga as cheap “political theater.”
Then came the reality check from the streets. One local writer, Sam Raus, noted he had a dead homeless person outside his apartment while the mayor was busy playing Model UN. “What a joke,” he wrote. It’s a sentiment shared by many who watch City Hall ignore local decay to focus on foreign policy. Commentator Eyal Yakoby summed it up: it was all just an act for social media clout.
Mamdani, however, isn’t backing down from the rhetoric. He doubled down during a Wednesday press conference. He insists Netanyahu is a war criminal and is officially “not welcome” in the five boroughs. If the feds won’t arrest him, Mamdani hopes the public will protest. “That welcome ends with me,” he boasted. It’s a bold stance. Too bad it has absolutely no teeth.
