Give them the cash, or watch the democracy machine grind to a halt. That is the latest ultimatum from Capitol Hill. Representative Summer Lee, a Pennsylvania Democrat, is not mincing words. She claims Black Americans will simply stop voting if the government keeps stiffing them on reparations. It is a bold threat. Or maybe just a desperate one.
Appearing on “The Native Land Pod,” Lee took aim at Donald Trump’s “anti-weaponization fund,” calling it pure psychological warfare. The goal? Disenfranchisement. According to Lee, the system wants Black voters to believe reparations are a pipe dream. Once you believe that, you check out. You stop voting. You abandon the school boards and the local supervisors. The establishment wins. “They want us that far out of this system,” Lee warned. So, the fight continues. It is a matter of debt.
This is not just talk. Lee recently revived a resolution to funnel federal cash to the descendants of enslaved people. It is a resurrection of a dead dream. Former Representative Cori Bush—who got booted in her 2024 primary by a moderate—previously floated a massive $14 trillion price tag for a similar bill. It went nowhere. Obviously.
But Lee’s real venom was saved for her own side of the aisle. She is not shocked that her Democratic colleagues are keeping their distance. Money talks. The donors backing these politicians do not want to write that check. Lee called out the “cowardice” of white liberals who run scared from controversial words. They do it with police reform. They do it with criminal justice. And they are doing it now. “We give liberals very often a pass to not be their most courageous selves,” she muttered.
The odds of this passing are practically zero. Lee knows it. Everyone in Washington knows it. But the Pennsylvania progressive insists she will not back down, even as the political winds blow cold. It is a long, ugly battle. Don’t expect a resolution anytime soon.
