Crawley Town has a new body in the trenches. Priestley Farquharson, a 29-year-old centre-back recently cut loose by Walsall, just inked a two-year deal with the League Two outfit. It’s a classic lower-league move. One man’s surplus is another’s defensive anchor.
He isn’t green. Farquharson clocked 59 appearances for the Saddlers over a three-year stint, with 35 of those coming during last season’s grind. Before that, he paid his dues at Newport County and spent two years in the Welsh top flight with Connah’s Quay Nomads. He knows the mud. His career started in the absolute trenches of non-league football, bouncing around outfits like Hitchin Town, Billericay, Hayes & Yeading, and Bishop’s Stortford.
The defender seems eager. He expressed relief at getting the paperwork sorted before the summer heat really sets in, noting that early deals make life easier. He also pointed to positive chats with manager Colin Kazim-Richards. They share morals. Kazim-Richards knows how to squeeze performance out of him. We’ll see if that chemistry translates to clean sheets when the rain starts falling in August.
