John Fetterman is not letting this go. The Pennsylvania senator is publicly demanding that Bernie Sanders apologize for boosting Graham Platner, the Maine Senate candidate now drowning in brutal sexual assault allegations. Fetterman didn’t mince words during a Monday appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” pointing the finger directly at the Vermont independent.
He helped him win the nomination. Now, Fetterman says, Sanders needs to apologize to the victims, especially the woman who accused Platner of rape. Fetterman questioned why anyone would keep pushing candidates like this, suggesting Sanders might want to sit a few election cycles out.
The scandal exploded after Jenny Racicot went to the press. She told Politico and CNN that Platner forced his way into her home five years ago while drunk, ignoring her pleas to stop and forcing her into unprotected sex. It was a betrayal of trust. She cut him off immediately. Platner’s campaign issued a weak denial, claiming he is reflecting on his path forward.
That path is rapidly vanishing. Big-name Democrats like Elizabeth Warren and Ro Khanna fled the scene instantly, calling on Platner to quit the race. Sanders eventually followed suit, releasing a statement on Tuesday saying he advised Platner to step aside in light of the serious allegations.
For Fetterman, that is too little, too late. He has been sounding the alarm on Platner for a while, previously hammering the candidate over shady messages on the Kik platform. Fetterman praised Racicot’s bravery for coming forward, offering his condolences for the trauma she endured while taking one last shot at Sanders’ political judgment.
