Coding is dead. Long live the prompt. Tools like Lovable and Replit have turned every amateur with an idea into a software founder. It is democratization at its finest. But there is a catch. The internet is now drowning in a sea of identical, beige, soul-free apps.
If you think every new website looks exactly the same lately, you are not losing your mind. It is happening. Vibe coding has triggered a massive aesthetic collapse. We are building functional software in minutes, sure, but we are also building a digital monoculture. The devil is in the details. AI-generated apps look pretty on the surface, but they are fundamentally broken underneath. If you want to scale, you have to break the mold. Here are the three dead giveaways that your app was built by a robot, and how to rescue it.
First, your app is painfully mid. It is the algorithmic equivalent of Ikea. It is not offensive, but it has zero soul. Industry insiders call this the regression to the mean. AI models love muted grays, rounded corners, drop shadows, and a single, lonely accent color. It is safe. It is also incredibly boring. One product manager who used Claude to build a gift-recommendation app admitted her early users instantly called it out as AI slop. It was choked with emojis and generic shadows. To fix this, you have to stop asking the AI for clean and modern designs. That is a trap. Instead, feed the generator specific brand constraints, weird color palettes, and strict anti-patterns. AI tools treat these critical moments as afterthoughts. When something inevitably breaks, an AI-coded app will spit out a generic, robotic error message like ‘Something went wrong.’ It is cold. It offers zero reassurance. To fix this, force your AI tool to design the worst-case scenarios. Prompt for the anxious user, not the perfect one. Ask the AI what to remove from a cluttered screen rather than what to add. And if you actually want to make real money? Hire a human designer to clean up the mess.
