Donald Trump is still crying over spilled milk from 2020. Senator John Fetterman thinks it is pathetic. On Sunday, the Pennsylvania Democrat told the president to grow up and focus on the present. Stop whining. Do something useful.
Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Fetterman did not hold back. He questioned why Trump is dragging up ancient history when the world is practically on fire. “You’re the president,” Fetterman told host Jake Tapper, pointing out that the election was settled over six years ago. He noted that this endless whining distracts from actual crises, like the ongoing war with Iran.
The drama started Thursday. Trump took to the airwaves to claim newly declassified documents prove China meddled in the 2020 election by snatching 200 million American voter files. It sounds scary. It is also mostly fantasy. A 2021 intelligence report concluded with “high confidence” that Beijing did not interfere in the vote count, even if they wanted Trump to lose.
Fetterman knows Pennsylvania. He was the state’s lieutenant governor back then. He insists the 2020 vote was locked down tight. Safe. Fair. Accurate. The voters chose Joe Biden, and that is just reality. Fetterman joked he might change his mind if someone shows him proof that 25 million migrants voted. But that evidence does not exist. It never will.
Trump used his primetime slot to bash his own intelligence agencies. He accused them of covering up China’s supposed meddling while he was busy dealing with Iran. He used the conspiracy to push his favorite election reforms, like requiring proof of citizenship and photo IDs.
Democrats are not the only ones rolling their eyes. Senator Mark Warner called Trump’s claims “bogus” on social media, reminding everyone that intelligence agencies agreed China did not alter a single vote. Even some Republicans are sick of the script. Representative Thomas Massie pointed out that the GOP actually won the White House, Senate, and House. The real fraud, Massie argued, is that Republicans got elected and immediately broke their promises.
