Kyiv just drew a line in the sand. Moscow is throwing a fit.
The Kremlin accused Ukraine of trampling on Belarusian sovereignty after Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave Minsk a strict seven-day deadline to dismantle signal relay stations allegedly guiding Russian missiles. Seven days. That is the clock.
Zelenskyy did not mince words on Friday. He warned Belarusian strongman Alexander Lukashenko that a week is plenty of time to rip out the hardware helping Russia rain fire on Ukrainian cities. If the gear stays, Ukraine acts. It was a direct threat, and Moscow felt the pinch.
Naturally, Vladimir Putin’s mouthpiece, Dmitry Peskov, had thoughts. He told reporters that the Russian and Belarusian leaders would hash this out in the near future. Peskov painted Zelenskyy’s ultimatum as a wild act of aggression and a blatant violation of sovereignty.
Still, Moscow claims it is not sweating. Peskov insisted Minsk can handle its own defense. It is a rich claim. Belarus is essentially a Russian vassal state at this point. Lukashenko let Russian troops use his soil to launch the 2022 invasion, and he currently hosts Russian tactical nuclear weapons. Yet, Minsk keeps pretending it is a neutral bystander, refusing to send its own soldiers into the meat grinder.
