Megan Rapinoe is back in the culture war trenches. The former U.S. Women’s National Team star took to the daytime television stage on Tuesday, declaring that the crusade to ban transgender athletes from female sports isn’t about fairness at all. It is, she argues, a direct assault on womanhood itself.
Appearing on ABC’s “The View,” Rapinoe didn’t mince words. She flatly rejected the notion that these restrictions protect young girls. It’s a ruse. According to her, opponents are merely weaponizing sports to halt female empowerment.
“They’re going after trans people in sports,” Rapinoe said, pointing out how easily sports can be used as a wedge issue. Everyone wants girls to be safe. But safe from whom? She thinks the real target is broader. It’s about control.
She pointed to a proposed measure in Washington state. Initiative IL26-638 aims to bar “biologically male” students from girls’ sports, requiring medical verification of biological sex. Rapinoe painted a darker picture of this policy. She warned it would force young girls to undergo invasive genital examinations just to play.
Why the hostility? Rapinoe has a theory. Sports build power. They build confidence. Look at the corporate world; the C-suites are packed with former female athletes. She believes the establishment fears this. Thus, the crackdown.
This isn’t a new stance for her. Writing recently in Marie Claire, Rapinoe called the legislative push a “smokescreen” designed by bad-faith politicians. Trans athletes have competed for decades. The real victims of this manufactured panic, she insists, will be the very girls the laws claim to protect. Fox News Digital reached out for comment, but Rapinoe didn’t immediately respond.
