The former Tampa Bay linebacker recently hopped on Jim Rome’s show to talk about the guy who actually turned the pirate ship around. Arians only spent four years in Tampa. It was enough.
Before Arians arrived, the Bucs were a punchline. They found spectacular ways to lose. David recalled the team dropping nine games in a single stretch purely off what he called “dumb mistakes.” Arians stopped the bleeding. He brought accountability. Real accountability, not the corporate buzzword kind. “He was that guy,” David said. Under Arians, they became disciplined. Finally.
It almost didn’t happen for David. When the coaching carousel spun and brought Arians in, the veteran linebacker figured his time in Tampa was up. New regimes usually mean new faces. But for him, the ring was just a byproduct of a deeper shift. Arians didn’t coddle. He trusted his veterans and demanded they stop playing like idiots.
