Tucker Carlson is done. The former Fox News heavyweight and longtime conservative cheerleader announced he is officially cutting ties with the Republican Party ahead of the midterms. Speaking on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast, Carlson made it clear that his decades-long defense of the GOP has reached its expiration date.
Don’t expect him to start wearing blue, though. He quickly clarified he has no intention of backing the Democrats either, leaving his political future in limbo. He simply doesn’t know what comes next.
The split has been brewing for a while. Ever since Fox booted him in 2023, Carlson has built a massive independent podcast audience while drifting further from the party line. The final straw? Donald Trump’s decision to launch a war with Iran in February.
It was a sharp pivot. Carlson had backed Trump’s 2024 run, but the outbreak of war changed everything. He publicly apologized for his endorsement, admitting he misled his audience, though he insisted the deception wasn’t intentional.
He didn’t hold back. Carlson slammed the conflict as a venture serving Israeli interests at the expense of ordinary Americans. In his eyes, the GOP has completely abandoned the very citizens it claims to represent.
“They are making decisions on the basis of other criteria,” Carlson said, pointing fingers at corporate interests, donors, and foreign allies. He called the party’s priorities “treasonous” and “immoral.” It is a system he says can no longer be tolerated.
For thirty-five years, Carlson carried water for the Republican establishment. No more. He believes his exit is just the beginning of a much larger exodus. If he is walking away, he expects a crowd to follow him out the door.
