Democracy is fickle. But the public has spoken, crowning Sioux Falls Jefferson senior Ayleah Johnson as the Argus Leader Athlete of the Week for June 1 to 6 after she locked down 45.73% of the vote.
She earned it.
On the dirt of Bowden Field during the June 6, 2026, SDHSAA softball championship, Johnson put on a clinic in her final tournament as a Cavalier. The senior went 5-for-9 at the dish. She racked up two doubles, a home run, an RBI, three runs, and a stolen base just to keep the defense honest. That offensive explosion helped secure back-to-back Class AA state titles for Jefferson.
Not a bad exit.
