Real Salt Lake eats dirt after JJ Watt drags them for erasing his soccer-star wife

Real Salt Lake rolled out the red carpet for NFL royalty on Wednesday. Too bad they forgot the actual soccer star standing right next to him.

The MLS club spent Thursday eating a massive slice of humble pie. They had to apologize. Why? Because JJ Watt publicly dragged them for ignoring his wife, Kealia Watt, in a welcome tweet. It was a bad look. Kealia didn’t just play the game professionally. She grew up in Draper, Utah. She was the local hero here. Not him.

JJ didn’t let it slide. He clapped back on social media. He listed his wife’s resume. He noted it was “probably worth a mention.”

The internet noticed. Instantly. Four hours of relentless mocking later, Real Salt Lake finally whimpered an apology. They called it an “honest mistake.” Then, they desperately tried to make amends by posting a massive, two-paragraph biography detailing Kealia’s stellar career.

And what a career. She won four Utah state high school championships. She grabbed a national title at North Carolina. She spent eight seasons in the NWSL playing for the Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars.

Today, Kealia works as an analyst for Amazon Prime Video. The couple also holds a minority stake in Burnley FC. Ironically, Real Salt Lake beat Burnley 4-1 in Thursday’s match. But off the pitch, the MLS front office took a massive loss.
