The college basketball recruiting calendar is getting ridiculous. We are years away from the class of 2027 even stepping onto a college court, yet high school sophomores are already dropping top-six lists like seasoned pros. Enter Kevin Savage. The four-star point guard out of Wheeler High in Marietta, Georgia, has whittled his suitors down to a neat half-dozen, and Auburn made the cut. According to recruiting insider Joe Tipton, Savage plans to end the suspense and announce his commitment on July 5.
He has options. Along with the Tigers, Savage is keeping Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Purdue, and UCLA on the hook. The kid can play. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 9 point guard in the 2027 cycle, the No. 36 overall prospect, and the sixth-best player in Georgia. Auburn jumped on the bandwagon early, extending an offer back in August 2023.
On the court, Savage is a headache for defenders. He has deep range. He possesses a lightning-fast first step that leaves defenders grasping at air. When he gets into the paint, he finishes strong, but he isn’t just a selfish scorer. If the defense collapses, he has the vision to find the open man. He is exactly the kind of guard who thrives in a fast-paced system.
Savage knows the history, too. He openly praised Auburn’s track record with floor generals, pointing to guys like Jared Harper, Sharife Cooper, and Tahaad Pettiford as reasons why the Plains appeal to him. He likes that the offense runs through the backcourt. He already has a solid relationship with Bruce Pearl and is busy building one with Steven Pearl.
Right now, Auburn’s 2027 commitment list is a blank sheet of paper. Savage would be a hell of a way to start it.
